Single Use Plastic Cutlery Alternatives


To provide SA Health with an awareness of alternative implements that are sufficient for clinical and disability purposes and comply with the recent single use plastic legislation.


Our context

Since the Single-use and Other Plastic Products (Waste Avoidance) Act 2020 went live SA Health have discovered that there are limited products available that meet needs relating to clinical and disability situations. We seek innovations relating to products that are;

  • Made with non porous material
  • Unable to be splintered
  • Able to contain food and / medicine sufficiently
  • Compliant with the Single Use Plastic legislation (Waste Avoidance) Act 2020

Submitting an idea

Suppliers are invited to register and submit ideas via the Healthy Ideas portal. Ideas are requested to be submitted by 27 May 2021 and will remain commercial in confidence.
